Christchurch Quake Relief

For those of you who may not know, a 6.3 earthquake hit Christchurch, New Zealand on Monday. At least 75 people were killed and hundreds unaccounted for according to the news. One of my author friends, John Ling, lives in Auckland and just sent me an e-mail that the Salvation Army and the Red Cross have set up funds for those of us interested in contributing towards the relief effort.

John says they have more than enough blood supplies, tents, clothing and food at the moment, but transport and provision of these goods will probably be the key thing, especially as gas is scarce in the region.

Also, John says the Red Cross website may be slow because it’s been getting a lot of traffic from the US. Apparently, one of a former Democrat senator was on holiday in the area and survived the quake. He made an appeal through the ABC network, so that’s drummed up quite a fair bit of good publicity.

Thanks for helping!
